Blue and yellow majolica bowl with an allegory of taste

JVV 0335

The Netherlands [Delft, Harlingen, Haarlem or Rotterdam], 1650-1675

The large, deep bowl on a wide foot has a turned, flat rim. It is painted in blue with yellow accents. A woman in a fancy dress with loose hair sits behind a kind of balustrade, and raises a glass with her right hand. She symbolizes taste, one of the five senses.

Dimensions: diameter 35 cm / 13.77 in., heigth 8 cm / 3.14 in.

Sold to a dutch private collector.
