Three blue and white month plates

JVV 0135

Makkum, dated 1764

Tichelaar pottery

painter: Gatse Sytses

Three blue and white plates from a Twelve-Month set after engravings by Frederick Bloemaert, after a design by his father Abraham Bloemaert. The pictures are framed in a continuous border of linked leafy branches, straps and scrolls. The month and date are painted in a cartouche in the foreground. September is represented by reclining farmers during the grain harvest, October by reclining grape pickers at a tavern and December by people pruning trees.

Dimensions: diameter 26 cm / 10.23 in.

Sold to a Dutch private collector.
