Explanatory note
Plates, dishes, plaques and shaving bowls with a central decoration painted in blue within a polychrome floral or ornamental border were mainly painted in the third quarter of the 18th century. They are usually associated with the Rococo period. Landscapes are the most common motif, but biblical and chinoiserie scenes also occur. By combining a blue decor in a coloured border, the Delft potters harked back to a late seventeenth-century innovation by The Moriaenshooft pottery.
