Blue and white chinoiserie dish

JVV 0423

Delft, 1680-1700

The deep dish has a narrow, slightly raised flange and is painted in blue with a chinoiserie decor. On a low table In the centre stands a low wide flowerpot or incense burner filled with open rocks, flowers, plants and a bird, surrounded in the foreground by four floral branches. The well and flange are divided into six wide and six narrow panels. The wide panels are painted with ovals in the well and cartouches in the flange, both filled with floral motifs. The narrow panels are filled with ornaments. The reverse features a pattern of circles and stripes.

Dimensions: diameter 34 cm / 13.38 in., height 7,5 cm / 2.95 in.

Explanatory note
The decoration is inspired by Chinese porcelain from the first half of the seventeenth century or Japanese porcelain from the third quarter of the seventeenth century.
