Blue and white chinoiserie plaque

JVV 0025

Delft, 1740-1760

This octagonal plaque has a thin, straight, upright rim with indented accolade-shaped corners, which is decorated on the inside with a continuous scroll ornament. The plaque is painted in blue with a chinoiserie landscape. Behind three banded hedges, flowering peonies and other plants issue from a rocky ground. Two birds are perched on a branch, two others are flying in the sky. In the foreground a bridge is reserved, and a Chinese figure in a boat sails underneath. In the background some buildings are visible. At the top a hole for suspension is pierced. The reverse is glazed.

Dimensions: length 28,8 cm / 11.33 in., width 28,2 cm / 11.10 in.

Condition: some restorations to curved part of rim, some minor glaze damage to suspension hole.
