In the background, ships sail on the horizon. The flange features a five-pointed element on a ground of scrolls. Three stilt marks, which are characteristic for majolica, are visible in the centre.
Dimensions: diameter 36 cm / 14.17 in.
Explanatory note
Tritons are creatures from Greek and Roman mythology, half man-half fish. They are often depicted as a bearded man with a variety of attributes such as a conch, horn, flambeau, violin, spear, mace or trident. The decor shows kinship with tiles depicting sea creatures.
