Polychrome lobed dish with peacock

JVV 0379

Delft, circa 1680

The polychrome lobed dish is composed of nine wide lobes and is painted in the centre with a peacock on a rock in water overgrown with flowers and plants. The border is decorated with a continuous frieze of tulips and flowers.

Dimensions: diameter 34,7 cm / 13.66 in.

Explanatory note
The colour scheme of blue, yellow and green is frequently found on lobed dishes from the sixteen-nineties, especially with images of King William III and his wife Queen Mary Stuart. In addition to peacocks and other birds, flowers, flower vases, horsemen, the human figure, landscapes and heraldic weapons are also depicted on lobed dishes with this colour scheme.
