The blue and white lobed dish is composed of twenty-seven double lobes. The curved center is painted with a Chinese in an Oriental landscape, within a double circle framed in a small band of ornaments. The border is decorated with a continuous landscape with four additional Chinese figures.

Similar examples
A similar example is in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (inventory number BK-NM-4371). A comparable lobed dish and a smaller example are depicted in the Van Geenen catalogue (p. 141, nrs. 12.12 and 12.16). Two Delft lobed dishes, wrongly attributed to Frankfurt, are in the collection of the Grassi museum in Leipzig, Germany (p. 119, nrs. 128 and 129).
Explanatory note
In the second half of the seventeenth century many lobed dishes were painted with Chinese motifs, mostly of landscapes with Chinese figures. The decoration is inspired by Chinese porcelain from the period of the last Ming emperor Chongzhen (1628-1644).
