Below the spout is a small and a large cartouche, both filled with scroll ornaments. A second large cartouche with scroll ornaments is reserved below the handle. A large and two smaller flower sprigs are painted on the front and sides of the jug, respectively. The handle is decorated with leaves. A band of large and smaller pointed leaves is painted above the foot.
Dimensions: height 23 cm / 9.05 in.
Explanatory note
Polychrome chinoiserie decors on wine jugs cover the entire body of the jug, and in the case of beer mugs often the entire object is covered. The decoration with chinoiserie landscapes in cartouches, floral and foliate branches and scroll ornaments on a purple-painted ground on this wine jug is exceptional and has not been documented before.
