The Metal Pot pottery
Mark: LVE, 1 0, CB, period of Lambertus van Eenhoorn 1691-1724. The initials “CB” most likely belong to the pottery painter.
The heart-shaped flower vase stands on a waisted, rectangular foot and features a fan-shaped row of five spouts along its upper rim. A second row of three spouts is set on the thickened upper rim at the front. The handles are modelled in the shape of bird-like creatures. The flower vase is painted blue. On the front is a decoration depicting the goddess Flora with the cornucopia amongst flowers; on the back is a ‘parsley’ decoration. On the top of the flower vase, between the spouts, leaf motifs are reserved on a blue ground. The five spouts themselves are painted with stylised leaf motifs, whilst the central spout features a design related to riyu motifs. Riyu motifs are painted between the three spouts on the thickened rim, complemented at the base by two bands: the upper one featuring a flower amidst scrollwork, the lower one with ruyi motifs. The foot is decorated with flowers and leaves reserved on a blue ground. Ornaments are applied to its thickened section. The rim of the foot features a zigzag decoration.

Similar examples
A virtually identical flower vase with a double row of spouts bearing an image of Flora is held in the Aronson collection in Amsterdam (Aronson 2026, no. 26, pp. 65–67). This flower vase was also produced at The Metal Pot and executed by the same unknown pottery painter, CB.
Explanatory note
Flower vases with fan-shaped rows of spouts were produced in Delft over a long period, broadly from the 1680s to the 1740s. Examples with a thickened upper rim and a double row of spouts were produced by both The Metal Pot and The Greek A potteries. The earliest examples date from the 1690s. Lambertus van Eenhoorns successor, Cornelis Koppens, also continued to produce flower vases featuring two fan-shaped rows of spouts.
