Pair of blue and white garlic-head vases

JVV 0584

Delft, 1700-1725

The octagonal garlic-head vases stand on a wide, spreading foot. The neck ends in a trumpet-shaped mouth. The vases are painted blue. Around the belly is a floral decoration of rocks, plants, and flowers, featuring a peacock, two birds, and an insect. The shoulder is decorated with a band of stylised flower and leaf motifs, the neck with stylised pointed leaves filled with scroll ornaments. The garlic-head is decorated with four flowers on a ground of scrolls, and the outer rim of the trumpet-shaped mouth with scroll ornaments. Four circular cartouches are applied to the foot, alternating with hanging flowers.

Dimensions: height 32 cm / 12.59 in.
