Blue and white chinoiserie jar

JVV 0545

Delft, 1700-1720

The jar has a narrow straight neck and is painted in blue with a chinoiserie decor. Around the belly are three scenes of a Chinese woman with two dancing children. Interspersed are three different floral still-lifes with birds. Two of them consist of a flower-filled incense burner on three legs, the third of a flower pot on a low Chinese table. Surrounding the neck is a hexagon, alternately filled with three large and three small cartouches on a ground of trellis work. The large cartouches are filled with three fruits, the small ones with a flower. A wide band above the base consists of floral and foliate scrolls.

Dimensions: height 28 cm / 11.02 in., diameter 19 cm / 7.48 in.

Explanatory note
The decor is a Delft imitation of Chinese porcelain from the period of Emperor Kangxi (1662-1722).
