Blue and white footed jar

JVV 0464

Delft, 1686-1700

The Greek A pottery

Mark: ‘AK’ and ‘No’, period of Adrianus Kocx (1686-1701) and VIII in relief at the bottom.

The octagonal profiled jar stands on a waisted foot and is painted in blue with an ornamental decor. The waisted belly is decorated with eight stylized floral branches. Blue ground ‘French points’ filled with three types of flowers are painted around the foot, the underside of the body and on the shoulder. They are interspersed with scrolled ornaments. The short neck is decorated with band of rectangular ornaments. A band of scrolled ornaments is applied just above the unpainted section of the foot, and around the foot rim is a band of triangles.

Dimension: height 23,5 cm / 9.25 in.

Explanatory note
The ornamentation of lambrequins combined with floral motifs is derived from French faience from Rouen.
