Delft, 1740-1780

The standing goat has its head turned to the left and is set on a rectangular plinth with chamfered corners. The white-glazed goat is unpainted.

Dimensions: length 11,4 cm / 4.48 in., width 7 cm / 2.75 in., height 11,5 cm / 4.52 in.

Similar examples
A similar, standing buck is in the collection of the Princessehof Ceramics Museum in Leeuwarden (inv.no. OKS 2015-021).

Explanatory note
Goats in eighteenth-century Delftware are relatively rare compared to other animal figures such as cows, horses and dogs. Goat-shaped terrines and terrines with a goat on the lid were also made in Delft in the Rococo period (1740-1780).
