White apothecary jar

JVV 0533

Delft, 1700-1800

The unpainted apothecary jar stands on a short, slightly conical foot and has a slightly protruding, upper rim. The apothecary jar's belly is constricted, creating a stacked spherical shape.

Dimensions: height 18 cm 7.08 in., diameter 9 cm / 3.54 in.

Explanatory note
Unpainted, white apothecary jars were probably used at home and not in apothecaries. Almost all preserved apothecary jars (painted or unpainted) have a straight, cylindrical shape, A stacked spherical shape is rare.
