The rectangular, blue and white bowl has a spreading wall and a profiled, volute-shaped upper rim. The bowl is painted with a seated boy in a garden holding a rectangular spell board with the saying ‘Pleased is rich’ on it in Dutch. The scene is framed in a lobed circle and set in a round medallion. A ribbon is painted on the top of the medallion, a flower branch on both sides and a double garland on the bottom. On the inside of the wall is a decor of scales, bordered at the bottom by twelve arches. The tips of the arches are decorated with four ribbons and eight, small double circles. On the back of the bowl, a branch is painted on each side.

Explanatory note
The meaning of the saying ‘Pleased is rich’ is that when you are filled with contentment, joy or well-being, you are a rich person, not in a monetary sense, but in a spiritual sense.
